Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in our first appointment?

The first step of therapy is to schedule a 90 minute initial evaluation. For children ages 3-14, you can expect this evaluation to be parents only to ensure that a thorough assessment can be completed. The purpose of this evaluation is to gather a comprehensive bio-psycho-social profile on each client that will help me with providing specific and individualized recommendations and treatment plans. Assuming therapy with me is indicated at the end of this evaluation, we will establish goals and, more often than not, find a time to meet weekly for 60 minute appointments going forward. As we start to make progress towards your goals outlined in your treatment plan, we will modify session cadence accordingly :)

How long will I have to meet with you?

While the short answer to this question is the annoying “it depends”, you can expect to see some progress in your first month of sessions if you are adhering to the recommendations given in your evaluation and doing your homework! YES, I said homework…NO, it is not worksheets or studying for tests! If you learn something new in session, you are expected to practice it outside of our appointments to gain mastery! Homework compliance is one of the biggest predictors of treatment outcomes so it is to your benefit to stay on top of it. Seem daunting? We will talk about ways to motivate you to stay organized and on track!

Can you prescribe medication for my child or do a neuropsych evaluation for them if we need one?

While I would love to be a one stop shop for all of your child’s psychiatric and behavioral health needs, I unfortunately am not qualified to provide either of these services. However, I work with some of the most talented child psychiatrists and neuropsychologists in the Greater Chicagoland Area and we can discuss appropriate referrals for these and other services if necessary :)

Do you accept insurance?

In order to provide comprehensive and out of the box therapy to my clients without the constraints of when and where I can work with you, I am out of network for all insurance plans. This means that payment is due at the time of the appointment, and you will receive an invoice showing that you paid after every session. I am also happy to provide superbills or any other documentation you may need to get reimbursed by your insurance company. Each plan varies with what they are willing to reimburse, but it is worth a shot!
